That is why we have tried it out at a larger scale. The current study was performed in the context of a large-scale RCT of 7,300 male subjects who underwent 8 weeks of resistance training with a maximum effort (MEP) training at 75% of the subject's 1 RM. Resistance training significantly contributed to improving performance (r = 0.38, p < 0.0001), with a significant effect at 12 weeks of 10% to 12% of the subjects increasing their VO2max and lean body mass (Figure 3). At 15 weeks, the effect of resistance training was even more substantial, with significant improvements in the following aspects: maximal oxygen uptake (RER) (r = 0.37/0.03, p < 0.0001), percent of VO2max (r = 0.36 ± 0.03, p < 0.0001), lean body mass (r = 0.37 ± 1.06, p < 0.0001), and lean body fat percentage (r = 0.30 ± 0.02, p < 0.0001); the average change in VO2max was 0.28 mL per kg (p < 0.0001).
